Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation is pleased to present a series of conversations and workshops exploring the theme of experimentation and challenging conventional approaches to learning. Each of these artists are actively pushing the boundaries of how an artist “should” use material, experimenting with self-defined modes of working, and creating innovative new art forms. Artists featured: Kelly Akashi, Yassi Mazandi, and Leela Cyd.

Join us for a conversation with critically acclaimed artist Yassi Mazandi and Frederick Janka, Executive Director, on Saturday, November 3, for the Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation fall podcast series Learning the Wrong Way. The conversation is free and open to the public.

The innovative strategies in Los Angeles based Yassi Mazandi’s studio practice have also inspired our programatic theme this fall of Learning the Wrong Way. Experimenting with self-defined modes of working with ceramics have led the artist to use paper porcelain to make amorphous and bulbous wheel-thrown pods. She has also developed an intuitive technique of hand carving clay over many weeks to produce intricate and otherworldly forms.

Immediately following the conversation, ticketed guests will join the artist for an intimate chef’s dinner.

On Sunday, November 4, Yassi Mazandi will lead participants in a hands on ceramics workshop at Firestick Pottery. Participants will learn how to make their own paper porcelain vessels on the wheel for those with experience and by hand for beginners.

Reduced participation fees and scholarships are available to youth, current students, as well as professional artists based in Ojai.

Special thanks to our partners at Firestick Pottery.
